Boulder Nonlinear Introduces Higher-performance Spatial Light Modulator
January, 2003 — Boulder Nonlinear Systems, leaders in liquid crystal optical devices, today announced the availability of its 256 X 256 analog liquid crystal spatial light modulator (SLM), which offers true grayscale response with eight bits per pixel. The 256 X 256 SLM is designed to provide superior performance in applications ranging from optical correlation and beam steering, to medical research, optical storage and telecommunications.
The introduction of the 256 X 256 replaces the 128 X 128 SLM as the company’s entry-point light modulation product. Improvements are marked by faster frame rates, higher optical performance, higher resolution and better plug-and-play capabilities than its predecessor.
“We wanted to give our customers a better performing SLM, while still offering a cost-effective, entry-level product,” said Marty Best, president and CEO of Boulder Nonlinear. “The new 256 X 256 offers performance levels similar to our higher-end products, but at a substantially lower price. It’s truly an ideal application for companies looking for a high-performance, low-cost SLM.”
The 256 x 256 SLM is available with either nematic or ferroelectric liquid crystal to meet the customer’s requirements for phase, amplitude or polarization rotation. Each system is optimized based on the user’s wavelength for maximum performance. For more information, visit the Web site at www.bouldernonlinear.com.
